Aubrey Meier is a photographer, illustrator, printmaker, and painter residing in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born in Florida and raised in Minnesota, she moved to New Orleans to finish her BA in Studio Arts at Loyola University. First working primarily photographically, in the last 2 years, she has shifted to mostly painting, printmaking, and drawing. This shift in mediums was inspired by a printmaking class and the related artist research (particularly Jackie Gendel and Zahra Marwan). Her drawn work prior to 2020 was realistic and to-the-point. Although in the autumn of 2020, she grew into her own narrative style.
Often working small, her charming paintings and prints require the viewer to stand close to notice details lost when standing at a “normal” viewing distance giving these works a unique intimacy. Through the meditative process of making art she copes with her mental health struggles, realeasing her emotions onto paper and canvas. Almost every artwork features a woman and recurring objects creating a visual diary of a quirky world that she would rather be in. Meier’s work has been shown in numerous school shows and included in The Photo Show at Undernine Gallery. In the future, she hopes to get her work into art galleries and published in poetic works.
